About

James grew up in Los Altos California, a suburban town south of San Francisco. He attended UCLA where he studied Fine Art with an emphasis on 3-dimensional work. In college, James developed a comprehensive knowledge of ceramic techniques that he used to build figurative and organic sculptures.

James’ love for sculpture, coupled with his natural computer skills, led him to pursue means for using the computer as an artistic tool. Being a 3-dimensional thinker and an avid movie watcher, James was quickly drawn to 3D Modeling.

While on his path to becoming a modeler, James found himself working an internship at PhotonVFX, a visual effects studio on the Gold Coast of Australia. At Photon where James got his first taste of the industry and felt justified that he had chosen the correct field.

After returning home from Australia James sought work at CafeFX, an accomplished, mid-sized effects company in Santa Maria California. In his first stay at Cafe, James devotedly worked hundred-hour weeks as a Render Wrangler for the John Woo epic, “Red Cliff.” Due to his steadfast work and charismatic personality, James was soon asked to return to work at CafeFX and has since worked with Cafe on several films including “Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland,” and “G.I. Joe: the Rise of Cobra.”

James’ lust for creativity drove him to leave his support role at CafeFX in order to pursue an MFA in 3D Modeling from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

While working towards his Master’s Degree James had the privilege of joining Whiskytree, a small, talent-packed effects company located in San Rafael California. At Whiskytree, James worked as a Render Wrangler and IT Assistant on the Marvel blockbuster “Thor.”

After James’ contract with Whiskytree was up, he quickly found a position as an Technical Assistant at Spy, a Fotokem company, located in the Soma District of San Francisco. James wore many hats at Spy and was called in to assist in multiple departments. James’ work included 3D modeling, production work, data I/O, assisting the IT department and much more.

In late 2011, James finished his MFA Degree and then took up a post at Atomic Fiction, an innovative young VFX company full of seasoned vets located in Emmeryville, Ca. After half a year at Atomic Fiction, James moved on to Industrial Light & Magic, a division of the Lucasfilm Company that has been responsible for some of the most groundbreaking effects in the history of cinema.

In the summer of 2013 James left ILM to pursue artistic freelance work and personal projects.
